Music at PLaY 2017

As well as all the shows, workshops and general fun we make sure we’ve time for music at PLaY festival, and this year we’ve got some real treats lined up, including PLaY favourites Jim Bazley with his acoustic fingerstyle guitar and DJs at Spinning@ including Ectomorph. We’ve a new actt his year: Rupert Housden

Friday night after our fire show we’ve got Djembeklan. This Mancunian six piece are a monstrous mash-up of African drum, rhythms and foot stomping, electronic, bass smothered dance music. Very live, very loud and very in your face!

Saturday, after the gala show we’ve got Seas of Mirth for you! Visiting Shropshire is this salty-smelling mega unit of sea dwelling reprobates with a mighty galleon of sound from the landlocked East midlands bringing along their drums, retro organs, guitars, strings and bellows! They’re as diverse as you’d expect from a nautical prog-rock group and their gigs are known for the crowd participation and giant crab. Check out their vid, here:

Finally we’ve squeezed time for more music in this year, with a late night Thursday night band to finish off the Spinning@ cocktail party! The C**ty Bumpkins will be taking to the stage at midnight with their ditties of cross dressing, apocalyptic chaos and morning poo. This pasty smashing ska/punk/hippity-hoppity band from the South West of England might not be suitable for kids but us grown ups are looking forward to seeing what’s been described by one fan as “what the 1997 Brit Awards would have looked like, if someone had doused it in scrumpy and set it on fire.”
